Racial prejudice which denies equal dignity of all the members of the human family and blasphemes the creator can only be eradicated by going to its roots, where it is formed in the human heart. It is from the heart that just and unjust behaviours are born according to whether a person is open to God’s will and the natural order and the living word of whether they close themselves up in those ego-isms dictated by fear or the instinct of domination. It is the way we look at others that must be purified. Harbouring racist thoughts and entertaining racist attitudes is a sin against the specific message of Christ for whom ones neighbours is not only a person from my tribe, my milieu, my religion or my nation. It is every person that I meet along the way.

We have waited for more than 340 years for our constitutional and God-given right. Perhaps it is easy for those who have never felt the stinging darts of segregation to say, ‘wait’? But when you have seen the vicious mobs lynch your mother and father at will and drown your brothers and sisters at whim. When you have seen hate-filled policemen curse kick and even kill your black brother and sisters then you will understand why we find it difficult to wait.
